BIOGRAPHY

Gillian Jones was born and grew up in the Home Counties of England. As a teacher of English she travelled in Europe, South America and the Middle East before returning to her roots in Kent. Nurtured in the Garden of England she combines a love of the environment and travel with a fascination for weaving compelling stories. ‘Blade of Light’ is the first of a Water Trilogy of which ‘The FARIS Affair’ is number two, with Frack-Tured! completing the series. Her award-winning ‘A Misted Mirror’ explores the puzzles in the life and poetry of her late husband in a genre which intertwines fiction and memory. In 2019 she published ‘Under The Microscope: Science, Religion and the Origin of Life Through the Eyes of Victorian England’, which brings to life the story of Methodist minister and scientist William H Dallinger: a story with links to Gillian’s own family. Her latest is a book of essays on 18th century environmentalists, botanists and thinkers; ‘Pierre Poivre and the Networking Naturalists: Early Environmentalists of the Eighteenth Century’, published in June 2022 by Austin Macauley. Gillian ‘s next plan is to work on a full biography of Pierre Poivre, in the course of a Master’s degree in Biography by Research.

On the Water Trilogy

  • Blade of Light: "I was delighted to learn that the Millenium Bridge has been such an inspiration…. I am well into the book and enjoying it immensely." Lord Foster of Thames Bank, O.M.

  • The FARIS Affair: "The book explores how moderate views and well-intentioned action can develop in extremis into lofty, unrealistic and dangerous ideals. There is excitement and suspense with an ecological edge throughout."  Don Sloan, British Council Association.

On A Misted Mirror:

  • "A Misted Mirror is a haunting and bravely-written memoir, presented as fiction ... a human, heartfelt read, and an important book in its rawness and depth." Patricia McCarthy, Editor, Agenda Poetry.

  • "A moving and honest account of the impact of caring for someone with Parkinson's and dementia. We recognize the impact of the gradual losses over many years and the metamorphosis of Sarah from friend, lover and wife to main carer for her husband. This book will help anyone who is feeling guilty that they are not superhuman." Joy Watkins, Dementia UK.

  • "This unusual, fascinating, moving and uplifting work needs to be generally read." Katie Fischel, writer and dramatist.
